Blackhead House

Blackhead House.

Location: Riga/Latvia/Europe

You will find the Blackhead house in Old Riga that is built at the beginning of the 14 century. It was built to serve the Brotherhood of Blackheads or in other words, it was built for a guild of unmarried merchants, shipowners, and foreigners in Riga.

Unfortunately, it was catastrophically damaged by the Germans on June 28 1941 during bombarding it, but the remains of the building were demolished by the Soviets in 1948.

Between 1996 and 1999 the Blackhead House was rebuilt and reopened on 9th December 1999.

On the ground floor, you will find rooms where the president of Latvia worked for a short moment while restoration work took place in the Castle of Riga where normally the president of Latvia works.

Though on the first floor, you will find luxury ball halls.

The basement is dedicated to the history of Blackhead House.

 Verdict:

Price: 3/5: It will cost you €7 per person. I think it is too much for things you can see. The perfect price could be €4 per person.

Comfort 5/5: It has a lift so you can easily move around from one floor to another floor if you have difficulties moving or you are having a child in a pram.

Staff kindness 5/5: When we entered the museum there was a guy at the reception who kindly explained how we can access different floors and what we can expect.

Location 5/5: It is located in Old Riga.

Specification: For your welfare and comfort you can leave your coats in changing area. In fact, in most museums in Latvia, you will be recommended to leave your belongings like backpacks, coats and jackets etc in changing rooms.
